About Me

Maria Dyveke Styve is a Max Weber fellow at the Department of History and Civilization at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. She obtained her PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Bergen, Norway in 2019, with the thesis “From Marikana to London: The Anti-Blackness of Mining Finance” on the intertwined nature of racial violence and capital accumulation. Maria’s research interests span the political economy of development, dependency theory, decolonial epistemologies, racial capitalism, critical race theory and economic history.
